But when Le Pen lost the election, he had an overwhelming feeling as to why this happened: sexism.
"Forget her policy and everything she was running on for a minute! I know she deserved to win," Mike said. He was "all-in" for Le Pen after seeing her photo next to Macron's photo on Facebook. Macron, who won the French presidential election, is a self-identified male.
Lisa Greenwild, from Fairfield, Iowa, had a more nuanced perspective. "Her policy might have been a little heavy-handed, but many of us know that roughly 50% of the population is men, and they probably all voted in their own gender interest."
When we followed up with Mike, he agreed with this sentiment: "We know that the only reason she didn't get voted into office is because of how sexist voters are today." Mike is a self-identified male feminist, and wanted us to state that he was wearing a "The Future Is Female" t-shirt during his interview.
After further discussion with both of these individuals, Cornhole learned that they had no idea Le Pen was directly tied to Neo-Nazis in France. We heard more from Lisa about this: "Oh that's bad... I guess we can deal with a man for now."
Cornhole was also curious about their 4th Wave Feminism insight. When asked about his feelings on the gender binary, Mike stated, "This gender aviary isn't something I think will catch on... it's a flighty phrase used to lead women to their own demise."
